Building Bridges With English
Building Bridges with English is a four-week, facilitated, online course with orientation during the preceding week. It is free and offered several times a year for ReachGlobal staff and members of EFCA churches. The course provides training in English teaching strategies and methods, introduces teaching resources, and includes a ministry element. Although it is designed for individuals who have little or no previous training in teaching English, it could also be a refresher for those who have teaching experience.
The main themes of the course are:
- Understanding language learners
- Strategies and methods for teaching ESL/EFL
- Resources for teaching
- Classroom management
- Sharing the gospel across cultures
- ESL/EFL teaching as a ministry
Practical application assignments are an important part of the course.
This course is asynchronous—there is no time when all participants must be online together, but each week new assignments are posted for learners. The learning experience takes place through a variety of formats: audio, video, interactive lessons, quizzes, PowerPoint presentations, readings, online discussions, etc. All required learning materials are provided within the course. Supplementary resources are also presented. Participants generally find that they spend 4-6 hours a week on coursework.
